What is Agricultural Business?
Agricultural Business emphasizes the business aspects of agriculture by combining the principles of finance and accounting with the technical aspects of agriculture. The chief objective of the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Agricultural Business is to develop the knowledge base and training that supports career opportunities in agribusiness and natural-resources management. The program is designed to allow students to have maximum flexibility in fulfilling individual needs, while enhancing their overall employability. The curriculum offers the following concentrations to give students maximum flexibility in pursuing educational and career goals: Business; Landscape and Turf Management; and Crop Science and Management.
Careers in Agricultural Business
As agriculture continues to evolve, employment opportunities for agribusiness graduates increasingly will be with firms and government agencies providing resources and services to farmers. The Agricultural Business curriculum offers excellent career opportunities, ranging from sales positions with local, regional, national and international agricultural marketing firms to management positions in a wide variety of organizations. Among those employing employ agricultural business graduates are commercial banks; insurance companies; farm credit unions; chemical and biotech firms; feed, seed and fertilizer firms; governmental agencies; food processing firms and consulting businesses.
About Agricultural Sciences
The Department of Agricultural Sciences is committed to providing a well-rounded and applied educational experience. Scientific
theory is blended with practical applications in modern labs (soils, crops, computer, beef, dairy, dairy foods, meats, greenhouses,
gardens, and equine).
The Tech Farm Salesroom markets and sells dairy, meat and plant products produced and processed on Tech Farm. These facilities support research opportunities for faculty, staff and students, in addition to service opportunities for the agricultural industry.
High school and pre-preparation
Any student admitted to the university may elect to major in Agricultural Business.
