What is teacher education?
Teacher education is a program that prepares its graduates to work in schools as teachers who know and can demonstrate the content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to help all students learn to the best of their individual abilities. The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Leadership offers a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a number of content areas.
Careers in Biology Education
Biology teachers guide students in discovering the design behind myriad complex events in nature. Biology Education is designed for students who plan to teach biology in grades 6-12 in public and private schools. Graduates of the teacher education program may assume the duties of a teacher in one of the nation’s 15,000 school districts. They may find themselves in a variety of public, private, or parochial settings addressing areas of knowledge in which they have received specific content training.
High school and pre-preparation
Upon admission to the university, students may apply to the College of Education. Generally, students who have an overall attempted GPA of 2.0 are admitted.
