What is Business Economics?
Business Economics is a study of the analysis and interpretation of developments in the business cycle, government policies, and international events in terms of their impact on consumer demand, prices, costs, competitive pressures, financial conditions and other matters. The Department of Economics and Finance offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Business Economics. The curriculum is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).
Careers in Business Economics
Careers in Business Economics are found in private industry, organizations, and the government sector. Positions typically include statistical/general research, pricing and marketing, financial analysis, forecasting, economic regulation, banking, management consulting and analysis, financial planning, investments, financial consulting/advising, consumer affairs, credit analysis, securities/bond/commodities trading, treasury management, and international trade.
High school and pre-preparation
Upon admission to the university, students can apply to the College of Business degree programs. Generally, students who have an overall, attempted GPA of 2.0 or higher are admitted. Examples of high school courses that serve as a good foundation for college-level business courses include: Algebra I, II and III; Applied Math III; Business Computer Applications; Calculus; Comparable Advanced Math; Computer Science; Discrete Math; Pre-Calculus; Probability and Statistics.
