What is Computer Information Systems?
Computer Information Systems careers concentrate on the application of information technology in business and allow organizations to gain a competitive advantage.
The Computer Information Systems curriculum is a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The Computer Information Systems degree program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).
Careers in Computer Information Systems
Employment opportunities for Computer Information Systems continue to be very positive and include varying job titles such as systems analyst (analyzing needs and designing an information systems solution); database analyst (developing and modifying an organization’s database); programmer/analyst (developing programs to analyze data); network administrator (ensuring servers and workstations operate properly); and Webmasters and Web developers (designing, implementing, and supporting Web applications).
In addition, colleges and universities are in need of professors to teach the many specialties of information systems that require a terminal degree such as the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) offered at Louisiana Tech.
High school and pre-preparation
Upon admission to the university, students can apply to the College of Business degree programs. Generally, students who have an overall, attempted GPA of 2.0 or higher are admitted. Examples of high school courses that serve as a good foundation for college-level business courses include: Algebra I, II and III; applied math III; business computer applications; calculus; comparable advanced math; computer science; discrete math; pre-calculus; probability and statistics, etc.
