What is Finance?

While Finance is an industry in itself, as evidenced by stock exchanges and other financial institutions, it is also an integral part of all other businesses.

The Department of Economics and Finance offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Finance. If advanced degrees are desired, the department also offers a Finance concentration in the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program and Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) program. The curriculum is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Careers in Finance

Opportunities include risk management, financial institutions, investment analysis, portfolio management, financial planning, securities analysis, real estate, capital budgeting, and treasury management. Corporate finance provides positions ranging from CFO (chief financial officer) to budget analysis and mergers/acquisitions. In addition, colleges and universities are in need of professors to teach the many specialties of finance that require a terminal degree such as the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) offered at Louisiana Tech.
