Degree: Bachelor of Science
What is Geography?
Geography is primarily the study of the patterns and processes of human activity. Geography majors select from a variety of human geography courses, plus some physical geography and Geographic Information System (GIS) course work. The Department of Social Sciences offers a four-year degree leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Geography.
Careers in Geography
Because it is part of the liberal arts curriculum, students majoring in Geography can expect to develop excellent reading, writing and thinking skills. In addition, Geography majors also receive training in highly marketable computing and statistical techniques. The dualistic nature of the discipline prepares students for a broad variety of career paths. Virtually every enterprise collects data, and most need skilled interpreters of data. Students graduating with a B.A. in Geography may find themselves working in real estate, banking, advertising and marketing, government, education, transportation, forestry or utilities.
High school and pre-preparation
Upon admission to the university, students can apply to the Geography program.
