What is an Interior Design degree?
The School of Architecture offers the Bachelor of Interior Design (B.I.D.), an accredited professional degree program. The rigorous program focuses on the interplay between surface and volume, light and color, texture and pattern, scale and status, and movement and view in order to prepare a student to become a specialist in the art (poetic expression), craft (technical processes), and practice (professional services) of giving physical shape and identity to the interior spaces that we move through, exist in, and use in our daily lives.
Careers in Interior Design
Interior designers may work in an architectural firm or other organization that designs interiors, or they may become representatives of a company that designs fabrics or furniture. Other options include working in the field of restoration and/or preservation. Exhibition design and facilities management also tap the skills of interior designers.
High school and pre-preparation
First-time freshmen are admitted to the School of Architecture if the sum of their ACT composite and high school GPA equals or exceeds 25.5. Or, the sum of their SAT composite and high school GPA must equal or exceed 1062.5.
