What is marketing?

The American Marketing Association Committee defines Marketing as the process of planning and executing conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. The Department of Marketing and Analysis offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Students may also pursue a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a concentration in Marketing, which normally takes two years. The highest level of academic achievement is obtained through a Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.), with a concentration in Marketing, which normally takes four years. The programs of the Department of Marketing and Analysis are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Careers in Marketing

While jobs in advertising or sales are more commonly known, other choices abound: Retail manager, retail buyer, brand manager, product manager, and marketing research manager are just a few of the potential positions available to marketing majors.

High school and pre-preparation

Upon admission to the university, students can apply to the College of Business degree programs. Generally, students who have an overall, attempted GPA of 2.0 or higher are admitted. Examples of high school courses that serve as a good foundation for college-level business courses include: Algebra I, II and III; Applied Math III; Business Computer Applications; Calculus; Comparable Advanced Math; Computer Science; Discrete Math; Pre-Calculus; Probability and Statistics.
