Policy 1440 - Age Discrimination

Effective Date:  8/5/2003

Responsible Office:  Office of the President

Reference:  University of Louisiana System, Policy M-11, Board Rule Chapter 3, Section XIX

Louisiana Tech University does not condone or authorize any kind of age discrimination in the workplace. A person's age cannot be considered in making any employment decision, including hiring, firing, promotion, tenure, training, assignments, compensation, benefits, and any other term, condition, or privilege of employment. Nor should a person be limited, segregated or classified in any way that would tend to deprive the employee of employment opportunity or affect his or her status because of age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 protects any person who is 40 years old and over.

If subjected to any form of discrimination based on age, the individual should immediately report such action to an appropriate University official (i.e. immediate supervisor, director, dean, vice president or president). That person or an appointed official will cause an immediate investigation into the allegation. If it is determined that age discrimination has taken place, appropriate action will be taken. Appropriate corrective action can include but is not limited to: oral or written reprimand, suspension, reassignment of duties, termination, counseling, altered decisions, or any combination of the above.
