Louisiana Tech University prides itself on providing resources that contribute to a safer campus for its students; however, like any community it is not exempt from crime. Therefore, the University Police in cooperation with the Student Government Association and the Association of Women Students offer several ideas and programs to educate students about campus safety. Safety precautions are taken throughout campus from the dorms to the classrooms. Using common sense is one of the keys to a safe and more secure campus. All of the residence halls are locked 24 hours a day. The residents of that particular dorm are the only ones given all-hours access to their dorm. An electronic keyless entry system is currently in use in all dorms for the all-hours doors. The campus police also offer an escort service for the student who are out after dark. The escort service utilizes three golf carts that will pick up a student upon their request. Twenty-one emergency phones are strategically placed throughout the campus. As soon as the button is pushed, Tech police are dispatched to that location. Additionally, eight parking lot surveillance cameras are currently in operation on our campus. Additional information on the University Police and campus safety may be found in the annual Student Handbook and online at the link on your left.
