One Big Day, One Big Event. Each April, the Student Government Association organizes a Saturday of volunteering that goes the extra mile – one yard at a time. It’s called the Big Event, and nearly 1,000 students storm Ruston residences to show a little love for some of the many people the university proudly calls “neighbors.” At area homes, the students rake leaves, trim hedges and wash windows – all just to say thanks to the Ruston community.
“This year, we dispatched teams to a record 106 job sites. We received many thank-you notes from the community. It’s nice to have every campus organization united in a common cause.”
Jenny Quinnelly (’05) Student government community service director Ruston, La. Speech
