Louisiana Tech is host to a wide variety of technological tools and electronic learning enhancements. Some of these services include computer labs for student access, wireless hotspots all across campus, and a cyber-cafe with multiple computers, plasma screen TVs, and webcams. Tech has taken special care to implement the most current technologies into the university. As technology continues to advance, Louisiana Tech will certainly not be left behind.
There are many computer labs on campus. Many are available to the entire student body throughout the day and into the night. One computer lab remains open for 24 hours to satisfy those all-nighters.
Wireless internet has become an increasing interest to many people in today's society. Louisiana Tech has many "hotspots" across campus in convenient locations. Wireless internet is currently available in the majority of the Prescott Library, the Quadrangle, the Student Center, Tolliver Hall, and many other places including classrooms and office buildings. Tech's wireless network is rapidly expanding and more hotspots are being added as quickly as possible.
Those students who live on-campus enjoy extra benefits. Those who live in residence halls are provided with an ethernet connection, phone connection, and cable TV connection. Some residence halls also have common room TVs and often sponsor dorm-wide video game tournaments and other similar events.
Louisiana Tech also has its own radio and TV stations. KLPI, Tech's radio station provides students with good listening in the dorm room, or in the car. Tech TV also offers many different advantages to students. Tech TV helps keep students informed about upcoming University events and other important announcements. In addition to Tech information, Tech TV airs popular movies throughout the month. Tech TV is provided free of charge for those who live on campus. You can also get involved with these stations. If you love music, apply to be a DJ with KLPI. If production is your thing, check out Tech TV. These organizations are always looking for good people who love what they do.
As far as technology goes, a very important place to know is Tolliver Hall. Tolliver is Louisiana Tech's cyber-cafe. Tolliver is home to several touch-screen computers, large plasma screen TVs, and several webcams. Since Tolliver has wireless internet access, it is the perfect place to grab a coffee from Java City and surf the net.
Though Tech has definately made efforts to stay current with new technologies outside the classroom, they have not neglected that the most important part, learning, starts in the classroom. Many classrooms are equipped with projection equipment and screens, and some classrooms even have digital learning boards. Most larger classes have a large projector system and speaker system installed to ensure that everyone can follow the instructor properly.
Many of this great technology is provided because of the student technology fee that is part of the price of attendance.
