Jimmy Walker
Bachelor of Science, Agricultural Education - 1981
Some of the fondest memories of my life were at Louisiana Tech. Those memories started on the Tech Farm, where I worked while attending Tech. Most agricultural students worked on the farm at some point during their time at Tech. It seemed the longer we worked, the more responsibility we were given and the more we came to believe that Tech (south campus and main campus) belonged to us. Our goal was to make it better for the students that followed. To be a part of someting as wonderful as my experience at Tech is a blessing, and I have never lost the appreciation that I feel for the University. My life long friends were met, my career ideas were molded and my dreams were made real.
During the summer between my junior and senior year at Tech I was fortunate to intern for the Federal Land Bank Association of Shreveport (the name at that time). That was the summer of 1980 and in August of that year my internship ended. I started my senior year at Louisiana Tech in September of that same year and in November the Federal Land Bank offered me a permanent position for the following June. My career started with the Federal Land Bank on June 22, 1981 and I have worked for the same great company for almost 28 years. Over the years the name has changed, but the mission is still the same; "Service Agriculture". The Louisiana Federal Land Bank Association has grown to an 850 million dollar association and covers the entire state of Louisiana.
I now hold the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Credit Officer. During my tenure with the bank I have served on numerous boards and committees around the state; as well as several national committees. I am proud to let everyone know that I am a Louisiana Tech Alumni. My career would not have been possible without Louisiana Tech, its faculty, and commitment to higher learning.
I am the proud father of five children and two step children. Two of my children are Louisiana Tech Alums, whose wonderful careers can also be attributed to Tech. I also have four grandchildren that I adore. I am married to Valerie Griggs Walker and our home is in West Monroe, Louisiana.
