Louisiana Tech University offers the most comprehensive agricultural sciences program in northern Louisiana. Bachelor of Science degree programs are offered in Agricultural Business, Animal Science, and Agriculture Education.
The Agricultural Business program offers the student the choice of three concentrations: Business, Landscape & Turf Management, or Crop Science & Management. The Business Concentration features a built-in minor in Business Administration. Both the Landscape & Turf Management and Crop Science & Management Concentrations include built-in minors in Plant Science.
The Animal Science program offers the student the opportunity to select from one of the following concentrations: Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Livestock Production, General Animal Science, Equine Science, Dairy Processing, or Dairy Production. Each area of concentration allows the student to focus on specific educational and career goals through course selection.
The Agriculture Education program is managed by the Department of Agricultural Sciences in collaboration with the College of Education. The program provides the student with basic content knowledge in agricultural sciences, while also fulfilling the requirements for teacher certification in Secondary Education through the College of Education.
The Department of Agricultural Sciences is committed to providing a well-rounded and applied educational experience. Scientific theory is blended with practical applications in modern laboratories (soils, crops, computer, beef, dairy, dairy foods, meats, greenhouses, gardens, and equine). The Tech Farm Salesroom (www.techfarmsales.latech.edu) markets dairy, meat, and plant products (produced and processed on Tech Farm) to the public. These facilities support research opportunities for faculty, staff, and students, in addition to service opportunities for the agricultural industry. Degree programs, laboratories and equipment, and a highly competent faculty and staff offer the student excellent resources to develop career goals and a foundation for continued (lifetime) learning.
