Solving the many environmental problems facing our society today calls for an interdisciplinary approach. Our Environmental Science program consists of an multidisciplinary, science-based curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum was developed by a faculty team in consultation with an Advisory Board of environmental experts from industry and governmental agencies. The core curriculum includes three main areas of study: Basic Science and Math, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Environmental Studies.
In order to provide a curriculum that fulfills the needs of students specializing in various components of the environmental sciences, 21 credit hours of directed electives are included. These electives provide the freedom to select courses that focus on particular career interests within the environmental field (e.g., policy, management, research, chemistry, wildlife, biology, assessment, or education). Electives are chosen in consultation with an academic advisor.
The ultimate goal of the Environmental Sciences Program in the College of Applied and Natural Sciences at Louisiana Tech University is to prepare graduates for the wide range of opportunities that exist in the environmental job market. This preparation combines the knowledge and training needed not only to analyze and diagnose environmental problems, but also to develop and implement solutions to these problems.
Links are included on this page, which will lead to a variety of web sites listing job opportunities, potential employers, career information and graduate school information (aside of Louisiana Tech University).
Students may also choose to obtain a graduate degree in the environmental field at Louisiana Tech University. The School of Biological Sciences offers a Master's of Science degree in Biology with an option to concentrate in Environmental Biology.
