 Tree Improvement and Silviculture

Spring 2008 Syllabus:

Fall 2007 Syllabus:

Education:

B.S.F.  - Louisiana State University
M.S.  - Louisiana State University
Ph.D. - Louisiana State University

Research Interests:

Tree improvement, bottomland hardwood ecology, hardwood silviculture, medicinal plants.

Hardwood Ecology and Silviculture Techniques:

The hardwood forests are complex communities and are a challenge to manage. The environmental factors and the requirements of individual species within the communities that shape the hardwood forest are poorly understood. We are currently conducting research to provide some answers to the questions about hardwood communities. Some areas of research include seedling handling and planting techniques, seed source studies, root/shoot relationships, and nutrient dynamics and production estimates. One current study will provide information on reestablishment of trees on abandoned bottomland agriculture fields. Another current project is designed to evaluate silviculture techniques for growing an exotic hardwood species used for medical purposes.
