Research Interests:

Forestry/Wildlife interactions, Contaminated site remediation, Global Positioning Systems, Geographic Information Systems

As the breadth of forestry has increased to include a whole host of environmental and ecological considerations, forestry research demands have considerably expanded. Analysis of classic forest practices now include such topics as wildlife habitat modification, endangered species requirements, reforestation/remediation of degraded sites as well as a broader view of a forest not as a group of stands but as an ecosystem. Research involving such peripheral topics frequently involves innovative approaches and the use of rapidly developing technologies such as GIS.

Past research has included effects of electric transmission line rights-of-way management on native plant communities and adjacent forests, wildlife food plot utilization with sensing devices, hunting club policies, reforestation following high intensity fire, and site remediation of polluted sites. Current research includes investigations of reforestation and habitat reconstruction following oil field brine contamination, using a Geographic Information System to map and soil type rare and endangered plant communities, and identification of rare and endangered plants using a Global Positioning System.
