The dietetic internship (DI) at Louisiana Tech University is a four-quarter (11 month) post-baccalaureate program that is accredited by the American Dietetic Association Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education. The program offers students the opportunity to meet the American Dietetic Association performance requirements to write the registration examination. This program begins in summer quarter and ends in the spring. Students completing the DI at Louisiana Tech University will complete 15 hours of master's level course work; however, completion of the M.S. degree is not required.
Features of the program include:
- Work experiences in a variety of dietetic facilities such as hospitals, school food service, and wellness centers.
- Approximately 32 clock hours of practice per week.
- Bi-weekly classes on Tech campus.
- Web based Nutrition and Dietetics graduate classes.
Expected competence to be attained by graduates includes:
- Mastery of American Dietetic Association Performance Requirements.
- Ability to provide nutrition care in a variety of settings.
- Ability to manage a food service operation.
- Ability to work within organizations to achieve goals.
- Ability to pass the national credentialing examination to be a Registered Dietitian.
Admission requirements include:
- Documentation of academic preparation: Academic preparation is assessed by performance in the Knowledge Requirement (KR) courses. These are the courses which contribute to the attainment of the knowledge requirements specified by ADA for an entry level dietitian. These are the courses your undergraduate DPD program required in order for you to receive your verification statement. The average GPA on the KR courses must be at least 2.85. Applicants must be admitted unconditionally into the Graduate School to be eligible for Financial Aid.
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score of 850 or above on combined Verbal and Quantitative scores.
- Admission to the Louisiana Tech University Graduate School.
- Official copy of complete transcripts.
- Statement of goals.
- Documentation of paid or volunteer work experience.
- Documentation of organization participation.
- Two recommendation forms.
Applicants to the Louisiana Tech University Dietetic Internship Program also must participate in computer matching. Applicants applying for the Louisiana Tech DI will need to participate in the April computer matching.
