Human Ecology: Student Organizations

Organization of Human Ecology Students

Membership in the Organization of Human Ecology Students is composed of all majors in The School of Human Ecology. The organization's board plans yearly activities and the annual spring awards program. Presidents of the student organizations within Human Ecology and one student representative form the governing board.

Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences - Louisiana Tech PGS.
This organization is a student affiliate of the Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Membership is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in human ecology. Programs and projects are planned to encourage leadership development and professional growth and to highlight current issues in the family and consumer sciences profession. Chapter events include monthly meetings, fundraising activities, and community service projects. Members have the opportunity to attend the LAFCS annual conference in March of each year and the AAFCS annual meeting in June. Louisiana Tech Student Dietetic Association
All dietetic students and students with an interest in nutrition are encouraged to join the Louisiana Tech Student Dietetic Association. Programs and projects are planned to promote professional development of members and to encourage networking with practicing dietitians. SDA has established a scholarship for eligible freshmen/sophmore dietetic students. For more information, contact Dr. Alice Hunt, Faculty Advisor at hunt@latech.edu.

The Merchandising and Consumer Studies Club
The Merchandising and Consumer Studies Club promotes activities related to understanding careers in merchandising and consumer studies. Projects include field trips and guest speakers. An interest in merchandising and/or consumer studies plus payment of dues are the criteria for membership. Louisiana Tech Student LAECA
The Student LAECA (Louisiana Early Childhood Association) group is an affiliate of the state and national organizations, the Louisiana Early Childhood Association and the Sourthern Early Childhood Association. Club projects include attending and presenting at state meetings, presenting local scholarships, monthly meetings, and guest speakers. Child Life Student Association
Membership in the Child Life Student Association is available to any student enrolled at Louisiana Tech University having designated Family and Child Studies as his/her major field of study. Students in this major, and particularly those in the Child Life concentration area, are encouraged to join the Association to learn more about the role of Child Life Specialists in health care settings; to promote the Child Life curriculum on campus; and to network with other students, faculty, and Child Life professionals. Our members attend monthly meetings with guest speakers and participate in community service activities, fund raising activities, and other special events. Kappa Omicron Nu
Kappa Omicron Nu is a national Human Ecology honor society. The Louisiana Tech University chapter was established in 1976. Programs are held throughout the year to help members grow professionally in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and research. Students with over 45 hours credit fulfilling the requirements of a Bachelor's degree with a major in Human Ecology who have maintained a "B" average and who are in the top 25% of their class are eligible for membership. A student must have earned at least 12 hours in human ecology courses at Louisiana Tech to be eligible for consideration.

Louisiana Tech Student Council on Family Relations (LTSCFR)
The Louisiana Tech Student Council on Family Relations (LTSCFR) was founded in 2001 as an affiliate of the National Council on Family Relations. LTSCFR strives to offer students in Family and Child Studies opportunities for professional growth through scholarship, professional socialization, and opportunities for service. Each year the organization helps to sponsor students' attendance at professional meetings. LTSCFR strives to provide opportunities for students to learn about professions for Family and Child Studies majors.
