The Division of Nursing offers two tracks of study for the preparation of beginning practitioners of nursing. The
on-campus program is a seven quarter curriculum offered to students upon acceptance into the nursing program. The
accelerated (extension) program provides an opportunity for licensed practical nurses with one year of clinical experience to pursue the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing through advanced placement in the program.

Nursing 109 -- Introduction to Nursing
An introduction to the field of nursing with emphasis on its historical development, the cultural and socio-economic influences affecting its evolution, nursing process and basic human needs.
Nursing 110 -- Introduction to Application of the Nursing Process
Coreq. Nurs. 109. Affords student opportunities to develop nursing activities which aid individuals in meeting basic human needs.
Nursing 112 -- Adult Health Maintenance
Preq. Nurse 109 and 110 and credit or registration in Biological Science 225 and 226. Designed to acquaint students with fundamental nursing principles and techniques to administer safe nursing care in meeting basic human needs. Principles applied in the clinical setting.
Nursing 114 -- Adult Health Maintenance II
Preq. Nurs 112 and credit or registration in Biological Sciences 214 and 227. Study, identification and application of basic nursing knowledge and skills related to adult health needs. Emphasis on patient centered care utilizing the nursing process.
Nursing 116 -- Adult Neuro/Psycho-Social Health
Preq. Nurs. 114 and Psychology 102. Continuation of nursing 114 with emphasis on organic and functional health needs of clients from birth to senescence including pathological neuro- psychiatric conditions.
Nursing 210 -- Maternal/Newborn Health Maintenance
Preq. Nurs 116. A study and application of principles and concepts of family-centered maternity care. Emphasis on nursing care of clients during antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal and newborn period.
Nursing 212 -- Child Health Maintenance
Preq. Nurs 116 and Psychology 408. Study, identification and application of nursing knowledge and skills related to children's health needs. Emphasis on growth and development, the family and prevention of illness utilizing the nursing process.
Nursing 214 -- Nursing Seminar
Preq. credit in all other nursing courses. Study current nursing trends. Emphasis on professional opportunities and obligations and legal aspects of nursing practice.
Nursing 216 -- Nursing Practicum
Coreq. Nurs 214. Preq. credit in all other nursing courses. Application of principles and techniques acquired in previous nursing courses in caring for clients with complex and/or multiple threats to basic needs and to gain more skill in working as a team member and in directing auxiliary personnel.
Nursing 100 -- Transition to Associate Degree Nursing
For students applying to the LPN to RN articulation program. Emphasizes transition to the university environment, roles, and competencies of the associate degree nurse.
Nursing 113 -- Introduction to Associate Degree Nursing
Emphasizes the nursing process and basic human needs with introduction to associate degree nursing roles. Principles are applied with validation in the clinical setting. Open only to LPNs admitted to the Extension Program.
