Organization Title:
Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity

Colony Name:
Beta Pi Colony

Criteria for membership:

  • Male Undergraduate
  • Majoring in some area of Agricultural Sciences or intending to pursue a career in some agriculture related field
  • Maintaing a 2.4 GPA

    General Information:
    Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity is proud to welcome its newest colony, Beta Pi Colony at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana.  The group was formerly called Beta Pi Chapter of AGR.  A group of the new members attended the National Convention in Breckenridge, Colorado last year, and they are excited to participate in even more AGR events in the future.  Alpha Gamma Rho looks forward to seeing this colony develop and grow.  Alpha Gamma Rho is the National Agricultural Fraternity with 66 Chapters.  Membership exceeds 60,000 men in 50 states and 54 countries. The fraternity will eagerly await for Beta Pi Colony to achieve chapter status in the near future.

    Organizational Title:

    Alpha Zeta

    Criteria for membership:
    Membership is by invitation to male or female students demonstrating superior scholarship (3.0 GPA or greater and at least 24 hours of earned credit), leadership, and dedicated service to Louisiana Tech University.  Initiation is held in the Fall and Spring Quarters.  New members are featured in the Alpha Zeta display case on the first floor of Reese Hall. Students must be majoring in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Education, Animal Science, Plant Science, Forestry, or Wildlife Science.

    Purpose:
    Alpha Zeta Fraternity was founded in 1897 at Ohio State University by Charles Burkett and John Cunningham.  Alpha Zeta  is a professional organization of men and women whose educational and career objectives fall within the broadly defined field of agriculture and natural resources.  Tech's chapter is called Louisiana Gamma Chapter of Alpha Zeta.  This fraternity's mission is to promote agriculture and recognize scholarship, leadership and character.

    Organization Title

    Block and Bridle 

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to students from all majors throughout Louisiana Tech University.

    Purpose
    :
    To promote a general love for agriculture and Louisiana Tech University throughout the state by assisting with livestock shows, 4-H and FFA events, and other opportunities as they arise.  Examples of the annual events in which the Club participates include The North Louisiana State Fair, The State Fair of Louisiana, The AG Expo Livestock Show and the Showdown at the Ike.  The annual Little International is the Club's major event, featuring students who participate in an animal (beef, dairy, equine, sheep, or swine) fitting and showing contest.  The show is held on the first Saturday in May and is followed that evening by an awards banquet.

    Chi Lambda Beta

    Criteria for membership:
    Local Membership: Open to any Louisiana Tech University student with an interest in the clinical laboratory science profession. Members do not have to be a Medical Technology major. Members must maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA.

    Purpose:
    To promote the clinical laboratory science profession, prepare embers for the professional practice, and encourage a bond of friendship among the members.

    Organization Title

    Collegiate FFA

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to all Louisiana Tech University majors, regardless of prior participation in FFA or not.

    Purpose:
    To promote agriculture and agricultural education through its affilitation with the National Future Farmers of America Organization.  The Louisiana Tech University Chapter of the Collegiate FFA has been recently reorganized and invites all interested students to become members.

    Organization Title:
    Epsilon Sigma Alpha International (Zeta Tau Chapter)

    Criteria for membership:
    Be a college student, faculty, or staff (male or female) and be willing to work for philanthropic causes.

    Purpose:
    As a premier leadership and service organization, Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) offers personal assistance and support to members in the development of confidence and competence to go forth and impact the world in a positve manner.  The letters of ESA stand for Education, Service, and Association.  These aspects of membership combine to create opportunities for personal growth that far exceed those of single purpose organizations.  Service to each other, to communities, and the world at large is a big part of this organization.  Our major philanthropic service is raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as well as Easter Seals.  ESA is a powerful network that brings good people together to accomplish good things - locally, nationally, and internationally.

    Organization Title

    Equestrian Club

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to Louisiana Tech students of all majors who share a common interest in horses.

    Purpose:
    The Louisiana Tech University Equestrian Club is both a social and service organization.  The club participates in regular events such as volunteering to be judges at the Holly Hills Jump Contest in the spring and fall, giving riding demonstrations to the local Girl Scouts, and raising money by selling a miniature donkey in the fall.

    Organization Title

    Forest Products Society Student Chapter

    Criteria for membership:
    Enrolled at Louisiana Tech and have an interest in forestry and forest products. No fees or dues are required for membership in the campus organization; however, a $25 membership fee is required annually if the student wishes to become a member of the professional society (Forest Products Society).

    Purpose:
    The Chapter seeks to promote a better understanding of the forest products industry among students, faculty, and the University community, while providing an atmosphere for personal growth and involvement in the profession of forest products manufacturing and utilization. The Chapter, chartered at Louisiana Tech in September, 1977, is affiliated with the Forest Products Society (FPS), an international, nonprofit educational association founded in 1947 to provide a common forum for all segments of the forest products industry. FPS encourages the development and application of new technology and provides a link for technical interchange between industry and research through the collection and dissemination of the latest technical information.

    Organization Title:
    Greenscape

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to Louisiana Tech students of all majors who have an interest in Plant Science - Horticulture, Agronomy, Landscape & Turf.

    Purpose:
    Greenscape, a social and professional organization, offers its members the opportunity to interact with others and to participate in field trips to such facilities as public gardens, plant nurseries, greenhouse operations, golf courses and experiment stations.  Members can also attend regional and national educational meetings and trade shows; assist with the annual Louisiana Tech Poinsettia  Show, Scholarship Auction and Sale; and work with the John D. Griffin Horticultural Display Garden.

    Organization Title:
    Horticulture Society

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to Louisiana Tech students of all majors who are interested in horticulture.

    Purpose:
    The Louisiana Tech University Horticulture Society is a Collegiate Chapter of the American Society for Horticulture Science.  The club participates in field trips and tours of horticultural enterprises throughout the country, sponsors the annual Poinsettia Show and Sale and manages the John D. Griffin Horticultural Display Garden on Tech's South Campus.  The club aso offers members opportunities to associate with other clubs from Universities throughout the United States and to take part in judging and identification competitions, as well as trade shows and educational seminars.

    Kappa Omicron Nu

    Criteria for Membership:

  • Students majoring in Human Ecology with over 45 hours credit
  • Students in the top 25% of their class
  • Maintaining a B Average

    Purpose:
    Kappa Omicorn Nu is a national Human Ecology honor society.  The Louisiana Tech University chapter was established in 1976.  Its purpose is to help members grow professionally in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and research.

    Organization Title:
    Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (LAFCS)

    Criteria for membership:
    Membership is open to students majoring in any area of human ecology/family and consumer sciences. A membership application and dues are submitted at the beginning of the fall quarter during an annual membership campaign. Students also have the option of joining the national association as well.

    Purpose:
    The organization serves as the "umbrella" organization for all human ecology students. The student chapter is affiliated with the Louisiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The organization provides monthly meetings, fundraisers, community service projects, and other activities for its members. Students also have the opportunity to attend the state and national conferences.

    Organization Title:
    Louisiana Tech Child Life Student Association

    Criteria for membership:
    Membership in the Louisiana Tech University Child Life Student Association shall be available to any student enrolled at Louisiana Tech University having designated Family and Child Studies as his or her major field of study.  Additionally, membership in the association shall be available to alumni of Louisiana Tech University who have previously been a member of the Louisiana Tech University Child Life Student Association and are interested in and willing to continue supporting the goals and purposes of the association.

    Purpose:
    1.   To promote Child Life as a career.
    2.   To increase public awareness of the Child Life curriculum at Louisiana Tech University.
    3.   To increase public awareness of the field of Child Life, as well as the career and public service opportunities available in that field of study.
    4.   To provide an avenue for Child Life students at Louisiana Tech University to gather, receive, and maintain information form prospective employers, groups, entities and organizations that support Child Life studies, careers and public service opportunites.
    5.   To provide a network of students, faculty and interested parties desiring to enhance their Child Life skills.
    6.   To provide a medium for the establishment of community service activities in the area of Child Life.

    Organization Title:
    Louisiana Tech Student Council on Family Relations (LTSCFR)

    Criteria for membership:
    Currently enrolled Undergraduate or Graduate students at Louisiana Tech University. No less than a 2.5 GPA based on hours pursued. Membership is open without restriction as to race, creed, sex, or national origin.

    Purpose:
    The Association is part of National Council on Family Relations, which is a non-profit educational and professional organization. The purpose of the LTSCFR shall be to promote undergraduate study and research and to stimulate scholarship and leadership toward the betterment of individuals and society. The members shall strive to implement the ideals of scholarship, citizenship, and leadership by rendering services and making contributions to Louisiana Tech University. The organization will provide opportunities for professional socialization to its members through contact with local family service organizations, the National Council on Family Relations, and its local affiliates.

    Organization Title:
    Louisiana Tech Student Nurse's Association

    Criteria for Membership:
    Students enrolled in the undergraduate nursing and pre-nursing program at Louisiana Tech University.

    Purpose:
    The Louisiana Tech Student Nurse's Association (SNA) is the student nurse professional organization on campus. The Louisiana Tech chapter is constituency of the Louisiana Association of Student Nurses (LASN) and also the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Louisiana Tech SNA is committed to contributing to nursing education and to aid in the development of the whole person, his/her professional role, and provides support and guidance to all nursing students.

    Criteria for membership:
    Students majoring in Merchandising and Consumer Affairs or students interested in merchandising or consumer affairs issues may join. Freshmen through seniors are welcome - no minimum hours or GPA specification.

    Purpose:
    The purpose is to increase awareness of career opportunities in Merchandising and Consumer Affairs, to promote unity and collegiality among students majoring in MCA, and to establish connections within the university and the community through service and outreach activities.

    Organization Title:
    Pre-Vet Club

    Criteria for membership:
    Open to students from all majors throughout Louisiana Tech University

    Purpose:
    To connect individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the veterinary profession or other fields relating to animals.  The primary purpose of the club is to help members acquire experience with animals and to develop professional associations and advice from upper classmen, club advisors, and practicing veterinarians.  Club events include biannual dog dips, monthly P.U.P.S. visits to local retirement homes, and an annual club sponsored and supported trip to a veterinary school in the United States.  In addition, the club hosts veterinary dinners for local veterinarians and club members where veterinarians can complete their continuing education requirements, and where club members can develop and enhance professional relationships and communication skills necessary in the veterinary profession.

    Society of American Foresters

    Criteria for membership:

    Purpose:
    To learn abut forestry, become active in the forestry field, and interact with professionals.  Student SAF members are professionally enriched while attending meetings of the North Louisiana SAF, State SAF, and National SAF.  Student SAF members receive many benefits, including the Journal of Forestry, a monthly newsletter, e-mail news alerts, and scholarship opportunities to attend national meetings.

    Student Louisiana Early Childhood Association

    Criteria for Membership:
    Major in a curriculum that trains individuals to work with young children and their families Be interested in working to improve the early childhood profession and the SLAECA/LAECA/SECA organizations.  Members must Pay local chapter/state/national dues.  A person can join local chapter organization without joining state or national organizations but they do not receive the state or national publications, reduced conference rates, and cannot apply for state or national scholarships or other benefits.

    Purpose:
    Student Louisiana Early Childhood Association is the oldest and most active SLAECA Chapter in the state of Louisiana. The purpose of the organization is to provide professional training, support, and network capabilities for individuals who are preparing to work with young children and their families.
