Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a program that has been around since 1973 at several hundred institutions. SI targets "high risk" courses (those with a high D, F, W rate) and is available to all students enrolled in the course section.
Once the SI courses have been selected, a student leader (SI leader) is hired. This is a Louisiana Tech student who has completed the course, earned a “B” or higher, and received a recommendation from a faculty member. The SI leader attends all class meetings, takes notes and organizes out-of-class group study sessions (usually one for each class meeting per week).*
During these study sessions, you’ll compare notes, discuss important concepts, and develop strategies for studying the subject. The SI leader is there to guide the group in reviewing the material covered in class and offers assistance with “hard-to-understand” material.
This service is FREE and open to all students enrolled in the selected courses. There’s nothing to lose and lots to gain (better grades) by attending SI.
