What Ethernet Is
Ethernet (to simplify) is just a faster way to access the Internet. It allows users to plug their computer into the larger than telephone plug while leaving the telephone line free to use. The speed is much faster than typical modem connections.
What Computer Hardware/Software Is Required
-Make sure you are running at least Windows 2000.
-You must have a network card installed.
-You will need a network patch cable between your computer and the Ethernet socket.
Setting up your Operating System for Ethernet Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Linux, or Mac systems, as long as you have a network card installed properly it should automatically configure your card to use our network. No additional work should be necessary.
Go to the Computing Center Webpage for specific instructions about manually setting up your network card:
http://cc.latech.edu and go to "New Students Guide -How To Get Connected"
*If you have problems with the Ethernet then call Housing -#4917.
