Organization:
- The first thing you need to do is figure out how to organize your photos so that they are easy to find. Everyone has their own way of organizing so try a few things and then settle on one that works
best for you.
I have all my photos in a folder labeled "photos" and then within that I have things organized by year and often times by an event name. That works for me, but you may like something else. Whatever works for you is the RIGHT way! ;o)
- Now, you've got your photos all organized and ready to go. Where do you start? Well, when you're just starting out it's easiest to utilize the wide variety of "freebie" items that are available on many of the links on the Resources page.
If you decide to join a digital scrapbooking community you'll want to keep track of your "freebies" and purchases so that you know where they came from and who designed them so that you can give proper credit when posting your layouts to share with others.
I've got all my "supplies" in a scrapbooking folder and they are organized by designer. I usually keep kits together. But this is all negotiable!
Kits and "freebies" normally come in ZIP format. You will download the zip file to your harddrive. I have a folder in my scrapbooking folder labeled ZIP FILES - that's where I save ALL of my downloaded zip files.
Once it's saved to your harddrive you "unzip" (double click to reveal the zip file contents - copy and paste that) it to the appropriate designer's folder in your "master" scrapbooking folder.
These items often include:
- big 12 inch x 12 inch "papers" that may be in .jpg format
- "embellishments" that are transparent (no background) png files (for example, ribbons, flowers, buttons, staples, etc.)
- "ploppers" (this are pages that are already designed and layed out for you - all you do is add photos)
- alphabets and numbers
- design samples
