Where is CITDL located?
The Center for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning is located in room 1013 on the Prescott Memorial Library side of Wyly Tower.
When is the CITDL open?
Our normal hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 11:00pm and Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm. Contact the CITDL for summer hours of operation. The CITDL is not open on weekends.
Does the CITDL take requests for workshop offerings?
We welcome ideas for future workshops, and are constantly searching for ideas that will enable TECH faculty to better utilize instructional technologies.
As a TECH faculty member, can I direct a technology workshop for other Tech faculty members?
Absolutely. We encourage TECH faculty to conduct workshops for other faculty members. In fact, instructional technology programs at many other universities have been strengthened by involving faculty members in such training. CITDL staff will be glad to assist in the scheduling and preparation of any such workshops, and will provide support during the workshop itself. Call us (257-2912) or email us (
CITDLadmin@latech.edu) with any ideas you may have for this type of service.
How can I get started using the BlackBoard CourseInfo Course Management System?
CITDL staff will be happy to help you with this. Call 257-2912 (or email using
CITDLadmin@latech.edu) and request that your courses be added to the BlackBoard/TECH server. CITDL will set up your course(s) and assist you to use the course management system.
Does the CITDL loan out equipment (such as digital cameras, digital video cameras, laptops) for faculty use?
Not at this time. CITDL equipment is used solely for training sessions. Faculty are welcome and encouraged to visit the Center and make use of all available equipment.
May I call on the CITDL when I have technical problems with my computer?
CITDL is primarily concerned with assisting faculty to utilize classroom-based technologies. Software-related and network problems should be directed to the Computing Center Helpdesk (257-5300) and hardware-related problems should be reported to the Technical Services Department (257-3097). Upon calling the CITDL with any technology-related problem, you may be directed to one of these departments for assistance.
How can I offer a course, via compressed video?
Faculty interested in developing a course for electronic delivery should investigate similar course offerings by colleagues in his/her discipline, as well as offerings by other institutions. Not all course content is conducive for electronic delivery, although a majority of curricula can be converted with appropriate resources of technology and time. In all cases, the department chair and dean should be consulted before faculty proceed with course development. CITDL staff can provide faculty assistance with contacts and resources, as well as recommendations concerning course development.
Can any currently existing course be considered for electronic delivery?
Any course can be considered or proposed for electronic delivery. However, not all course contents and disciplines can be readily converted into an electronic format. As with all courses offered at the University, new courses must be approved by the Instructional Policies Committee (IPC) or Graduate Council.
Do courses scheduled for electronic delivery have specific section numbers?
The Office of the Registrar has created two section codes for courses delivered electronically. Section 083 is only used for courses delivered via compressed video and section 084 is used for world wide web courses.
