Civil Engineering : Education Objectives and Outcomes

The six Educational Objectives of the Civil Engineering Program are:

CvENE01: To produce graduates who have developed the skills required to design civil engineering systems and facilities, including the graduates' abilities to formulate problems, to think creatively, the synthesize information, and to work collaboratively in teams. The civil engineering program at Louisiana Tech University will concentrate undergraduate instruction in areas of water resources/environmental, structures, transportation, and geotechnical engineering.

CvENE02: To produce graduates who are trained thoroughly in methods of analysis, including the mathematical and computational skills appropriate for civil engineers to use when problem solving.

CvENE03: To produce graduates who are prepared for life-long learning and successful careers as civil engineers.

CvENE04: To produce graduates who are taught to use current experimental and data analysis techniques for civil engineering applications.

CvENE05: To produce graduates who have developed oral and written communication skills that allow students to present information effectively.

CvENE06: To produce graduates with understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

Civil Engineering Program Outcomes

The Civil Engineering Program Outcomes adopted by the faculty are:
Louisiana Tech Civil Engineering graduates will have:

CvENO01: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve engineering problems.

CvENO02: The ability to practice civil engineering using up-to-date techniques, skills, and tools as a result of life-long learning.

CvENO03: An ability to formulate and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

CvENO04: An ability to design a system or component to satisfy stated or code requirements

CvENO05: An ability to serve on and lead teams

CvENO06: An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.

CvENO07: An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

CvENO08: An ability to communicate effectively.

CvENO09: The broad education necessary to understand the potential impact of engineering solutions in various geographical settings including societal and environmental contexts.

CvENO10: A knowledge of contemporary issues as they affect the professional ad ethical practice of engineering.
