Welcome to the Engineering and Technology Management Program. I am Dr. Beth Hegab
and I am the Academic Advisor for this program.
Louisiana Tech University has a strong tradition of providing an outstanding undergraduate engineering education. The Industrial Engineering Program dates back to 1955 with over 700 alumni, many of whom have risen to the highest ranks in Fortune 500 companies. Louisiana Tech has offered a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering since 1970. The Engineering and Technology Management Degree program, established in 2001, is an outgrowth of these strengths. This degree provides training that includes a mix of engineering analysis of business processes, such as Six-Sigma, and soft skills, such as personnel management, to enable the graduate to be more effective in managerial and leadership roles in a business environment. These skills build on the engineering degree of the candidate or practical experience in the field.
Nationwide, the importance and value of this type of graduate degree program which integrates traditional engineering/science and business skills is receiving increased attention and funding. This degree fills a needed void between a scientific Ph.D. and a business MBA and, as such, is important in both traditional and emerging business environments. The State of Louisiana Long Term Demand of Top Occupations to the Year 2016 includes the following in Demand Level I: Industrial Engineers, Industrial Production Managers, and Engineering Managers requiring approximately 130 graduates necessary each year in Louisiana. According to the 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook, the median salary for engineers of all disciplines was $76,921. The median salary for engineering managers was $105,430, a difference of $28,509.
Louisiana Tech is uniquely qualified to offer this type of program. Dr. B. Hegab has both a BS and a MS degree in Industrial Engineering with a DBA in Business (finance). Dr. Easley has a BS degree in Management with a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. Dr. Ker is the Program Chair of Industrial Engineering and brings nearly 20 years of experience with a long history of working with area companies to improve and optimize processes. Dr. Cronk has a BS and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, providing unique skills in the area of human factors, ergonomics, etc. Dr. Sule is a Professor Emeritus with nearly 40 years of experience who is still very active in the program and has written a number of textbooks in the area of Manufacturing Facilities, Scheduling, and Logistics that are used across the nation.
The Engineering and Technology Management Degree is currently the ONLY degree in the College of Engineering and Science that can be completed entirely online. The focus is on providing an education to working professionals to enhance their value and mobility in their organization - either commercial or government. In particular, this degree is specially suited for personnel at Barksdale Air Force Base. Louisiana Tech's Technology Transfer Director Dr. Scott Forrest is a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and is well acquainted with the unique needs of BAFB. Louisiana Tech is an outstanding value - ranked in the Top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges by Kiplinger's Magazine.
