Dr. Callens received Professor Emeritus. |
Dr. Callens has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses at Tech for the past 23 years. These courses include Fluid Mechanics, Gas Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Aerothermodynamics, and many other engineering courses. In 1983, his first position at Tech was an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. In 1994, he was appointed the Interim Department Head of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He became the Academic Director for Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering Programs in 1996. In 1997, he obtained his current position as the Academic Director for Mathematics and Statistics. He was appointed to be the Associate Director of the Institute for Micromanufacturing from 1998-2001. After many years of dedication to Tech, he will be retiring this June in order to spend more time with his wife and family.
Dr. Callens has also worked for ARO and Calspan at the Air Force’s Arnold Engineering and Development Center (AEDC) in the Aeroballistics Branch of the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility (VKF) as a Research Engineer, a Range Projects Section Supervisor, and an Engineering Manager. He has had over 33 years of experience in aerospace test and technology project management. Numerous honors have been awarded to him such as the von Karman Prize from the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics General H. H. Arnold Award and Space Shuttle Plaque Award, College of Engineering Outstanding Achievement Award in Student Advising, and James F. Naylor, Jr. Professor of Mechanical Engineering to name a few. Dr. Callens has been very committed to excelling in everything he has done. He is an outstanding faculty member and leader in the College of Engineering and Science. |
