J.T. Folk, Sr.
John Thomas Folk graduated from the Clemson A&M College of South Carolina in 1909 with a B.S. degree. He was hired as an instructor in the Department of Engineering of Louisiana Polytechnic Institute where he taught from 1911 to 1918. After 14 years as part owner of the W.H. Cook Company he returned to the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1933 where he taught until 1954. Before retiring as Professor of Civil Engineering, he also served as acting Dean of Engineering. He held memberships in the national Education Association, Louisiana Education Association, Louisiana Engineering Society, Monroe Section of Louisiana Engineering Society, and the American Society for Engineering Education. He was President of the Ruston Kiwanis Club, Ruston Chamber of Commerce, and Lincoln Parish School Board, and active in many positions with the Ouachita Valley Council of Boy Scouts and Trinity United Methodist Church.
