The COES LLC is home to over 150 COES majors. Our female residents live on the first floor of Dudley Hall, and male residents live across the street in Graham Hall. Both of these residence halls are located near Bogard Hall, the central COES academic building. Other recent additions to the LLC are the ninth floor of Neilson Hall and several apartments in University Park.
Goals
The goals of the COES LLC are to:
- Create a community of COES majors who can motivate, help, and support one another
- Help students to be aware and take advantage of the tools available to them
- Enable student success, both inside and outside the classroom, by giving students realistic expectations about college and COES
- Encourage students to pursue a variety of experiences and relationships on the Tech campus and in the community of Ruston
- Provide physical space and resources that residents can call their own
Resources
Graham basement
LLC students who live in the LLC can use the resources in Graham’s basement as they work through the whole process of group assignments and projects. The study areas are perfect for working on homework assignments and design plans. Then, students can use the project lab to actually build their projects. The area also includes locked cabinets that teams can use to store tools and materials. Finally, student groups can sign up to practice their class presentations in the “breakout room,” which includes a built-in projector and screen. From start to finish, the Graham basement is a comfortable and convenient place for our residents to work together.
Lounges
Each LLC hall has a large lounge on its first floor. These common areas are perfect for hanging out with other residents; watching movies; hosting student organization meetings; and yes, even studying. There is also a projector system that can be checked out and used in the lounges – you can be creative about what can be done with that! If you have any fun ideas, let your RA know.
Study areas
Every floor has its own study, yet another good place for our residents to meet. One thing is sure, the atmosphere in this community encourages students to work hard and work together.
Relevant Programming
This LLC exists to serve the needs and interests of COES students, so we are intentional about hosting programs that fit these students. From study seminars to movie nights, our residents can take part in activities that are specifically designed to help them build community and succeed. If you have specific ideas that would be fun or helpful, let us know!
Each other!
The other residents of the LLC will be your absolute best resource. From the beginning of your time here, you will be confident that you belong. You will experience the transition into college along with this group. You will learn together and teach together. You will help one another on assignments. You will learn to visit professors together. You will branch out and get involved in various areas of the campus and community, but you will always know that you also have a place with this group.
Cost
The LLC does not have an extra fee; its cost is the regular amount for a double occupancy room or an apartment. Your deposit amount will depend on when you apply; you can find more information at the Residence Life website and on your housing application.
How do I join the LLC?
LLC spots go fast, so submit your housing application as soon as possible (starting October 1 and after you have been admitted to Tech). Incoming freshmen, be sure to list Graham or Dudley as your first choice (Neilson will no longer be part of the LLC as of Fall 2009). Also be sure that you identified engineering or science as your major on your LA Tech admission application. We would love for you to join us!
*NOTE: In order to serve students who will need to use the project lab space most, preference in Graham Hall is given to those who have already lived on campus for a year or who begin at Tech enrolled in MATH 240 and its corequisite courses.
