Directed Electives and Graduate Courses for Fall Quarter
| MEEN 435 | Internal Combustion Engines | 9:30 – 10:45 MWF | Dr. Leland Weiss |
| MSE 401 | Microsystems Principles | 8 – 9:15 MWF | Dr. Shengnian Wang |
| ENTR 460 | Innovative Venture Research | 2 – 3:50 MW | Dr. Jon Pratt |
| MEMT 588 | Inelastic Deformation | 2 – 3:15 MWF | Dr. Jay Wang |
Selected courses from mathematics and other engineering programs can serve as directed electives. Please discuss specific courses with your advisor before registering; a petition should be filed for any non-MEEN or MEMT directed elective.
Limited ENGL 303 and 363 Offerings
There will be only seven sections of ENGL 303 and one section of ENGL 363 this fall. If you need to take one of these courses, please register as early as possible. Also, if you are unable to get a seat in one of these courses (which are required for MEEN 480), please let your adviser know so we can keep track of the unmet demand.
Co-Ops, Internships and Summer Research Experiences
We encourage students to complete internships and co-ops while completing their MEEN degree. If you are a student who will be taking a light load next year because you are off-schedule with your courses, you might be a perfect candidate for a co-op position. Talk to your advisor about which quarter would be best for you to miss next year. Internships and co-op experiences enrich your education and provide valuable job experience that will make you more attractive to potential employers, especially in difficult economic times.
The National Science Foundation sponsors Research Experiences for Undergraduates at universities across the country. The deadlines for these programs are generally from January through March. These experiences are especially good for those thinking of earning a graduate engineering degree. Prerequisites and Rubric GPA
Be sure to check the course descriptions for prerequisite information in the University Catalog:
http://www.latech.edu/registrar/bulletin/university_catalog_2009-10_web.pdf
Course descriptions begin on page 176. In particular, freshman and sophomore students should be aware of the MATH 240-244 minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 on all attempts to enter MEEN 332, MEEN 351, MEEN 382, and MEMT 313. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in MATH 240-243 is required for entry into MEMT 212.
Remember that you must earn a “C” or better in all required CHEM, PHYS, MATH, ENGR, and MEMT courses to progress. For example, you cannot enroll in MEEN 361 unless you earn at least a “C” in MEMT 212.
Please be aware that you must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all MEEN rubric courses to graduate. MEEN rubric courses include ENGR 220, ENGR 222, all required MEMT courses, and all MEEN courses, included approved directed electives.
