Directed Electives for Spring Quarter
The following directed electives are available to mechanical engineering students for the spring quarter:
MEEN 450C - Durability - Dr. Cardenas
MEEN 488 - Solid Modeling in Engineering Design - Dr. Corley
MSE 405* - Nanotechnology Principles - Dr. O’Neal
Be sure to discuss your choice of directed electives with your advisor.
*One of your directed electives must be in Mechanical Engineering (MEEN or MEMT).
Adjunct Faculty for Spring Quarter
We are very pleased to have Dr. Randall Barron and Dr. Tom Straughan teaching classes for us this quarter. Dr. Barron will be teaching both sections of MEEN 353 - Heat Transfer, and Dr. Straughan will be teaching both sections of MEEN 361 - Advanced Strength of Materials.
Mock F.E. Exam for MEEN Seniors
All MEEN students enrolled in MEEN 482 and ENGR 489A - Senior Capstone Design are required to take a two-hour mock Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) Exam during the spring quarter. This exam will be similar in format to the exam that this group of students took in the winter quarter of the 2004-05 academic year. It is administered on line through the world wide web with scores being available instantly. The content of the exam will be problems taken from subject matter covered during the junior and senior years of the MEEN curriculum. It is meant to accurately reflect the kinds of problems that are typically included in the afternoon mechanical engineering discipline specific portion of the F.E. exam. The exam will be administered during the week of April 10-14, 2006.
Scholarship Applications Available
The time to apply for COES and MEEN scholarships is fast approaching! Each year, scholarship applications are posted on the bulletin board outside BH 217. This year they will be available on February 10, 2006. The application deadline will be March 17, 2006. This is a common application used for both the COES and MEEN scholarships, and they should be turned in to COES, not MEEN. Many (but not all) of the available scholarships require a 3.0 GPA. Some have other criteria such as financial need or demonstrated leadership. But you must apply to be eligible! Dr. Barker (BH 211; mbarker@latech.edu) is the official MEEN scholarship contact person.
