Directed Electives for Fall Quarter

Selected courses from mathematics and other engineering programs can serve as directed electives. Please discuss specific courses with your advisor before registering; a petition should be filed for any non MEEN or MEMT directed elective . At least one of your directed electives must be a mechanical engineering course.

Transition Courses for MEEN Majors

The mechanical engineering curriculum will increase by six semester hours beginning in the fall of 2007. These six hours will be allocated as follows:

Original Course

New Course

MEEN 334 - Thermodynamics II (2 hours)

MEEN 332 - Thermodynamics II (3 hours)

MEEN 465 - Machine Element Design (2 hours)

MEEN 462 - Machine Element Design (3 hours)

MEMT 211 - Intermediate Mechanics of Materials (2 hours)

MEMT 212 - Intermediate Statics & Mechanics of Materials (3 hours)

MEEN 475 - Mechatronics (3 hours)

The "new courses" will be taught for the first time during the 2007-2008 academic year. Students who entered before fall of 2008 will take MEEN 332, MEEN 462 and MEMT 212 unless they have already completed the corresponding "original course." The original courses will no longer be taught.

Students who take MEEN 332, MEEN 462 and MEMT 212 will only be required to take one directed elective. MEEN 475 - Mechatronics can serve as this designated elective, or the student can choose another MEEN or MEMT designated electi ve. Students who complete fewer than three of the new courses (MEEN 332, MEEN 462 and MEMT 212) will be required to take two designated electives.
