Selected courses from other engineering programs can serve as directed electives. Please discuss specific courses with your advisor before registering. At least one of your directed electives should be a mechanical engineering course.
Directed Electives for Spring Quarter
We anticipate that Dr. Heath Tims will teach MEEN 475 - Mechatronics and that Dr. Luke Lee will teach MEEN 413 - Composite Materials Design in the spring quarter of 2007.
Prerequisites
Be sure to check the course descriptions for prerequisite information in the University Catalog at www.latech.edu/registrar/bulletin/2006-2007/partiv.pdf. In particular, freshman and sophomore students should be aware of the MATH 240-244 minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 on all attempts to enter MEEN 334, MEEN 351, MEEN 381, and MEMT 313 and a 2.0 minimum GPA in MATH 240-243 for entering MEMT 211.
Another Winter Quarter Course of Possible Interest
ENTR 410 – Entrepreneurship for High Tech Start-Ups is a course taught by Dr. Pratt during the winter quarter that may be of interest to some students. This course will involve writing and presenting a business plan. Junior standing is required for entry into this course, and there are no other prerequisites. Although the course will not count as a technical elective due to limited technical content, it could be very valuable to those who would like to start their own business.
