Directed Electives for Winter Quarter

Can take as Technical Elective with approval from the Graduate School

Selected courses from mathematics and other engineering programs can serve as directed electives. Please discuss specific courses with your advisor before registering; a petition should be filed for any non MEEN or MEMT directed elective. At least one of your directed electives must be a mechanical engineering  (MEEN or MEMT) course.

Senior Lab Moved to Winter Quarter

MEEN 486 – Mechanical Engineering Laboratory will be taught in the winter quarter instead of the spring quarter this year. MEEN 486 will not be taught in the spring, so please register for the course now if you plan to graduate this year.

MEEN 292 Only Taught in Winter

MEEN 292 – Mechanical Engineering Computer Applications will be taught in the winter quarter and not in the spring quarter. Please plan accordingly.

Directed Electives for Spring Quarter

We anticipate that MEEN 475 – Mechatronics, MEMT 411 – Advanced Engineering Materials and another directed elective by Dr. Niel Crews, one of our new mechanical engineering faculty members, will be offered in spring 2009. MEMT 577 - Advanced Strength of Materials is also planned for the spring.

Prerequisites

Be sure to check the course descriptions for prerequisite information in the University Catalog at http://www.latech.edu/registrar/bulletin/2008-2009/partiv.pdf. In particular, freshman and sophomore students should be aware of the MATH 240-244 minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 on all attempts to enter MEEN 332, MEEN 351, MEEN 382, and MEMT 313. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in MATH 240-243 is required for entry into MEMT 212.
