The College of Education at Louisiana Tech University is the largest college at Louisiana Tech by enrollment. With a 2007 fall enrollment of 2,911 students the College of Education accounts for approximately 27% of the University's total enrollment. Across the state of Louisiana, faculty and graduates of the Louisiana Tech College of Education are always well received and well respected. Louisiana Tech's unique and aggressive approach to teacher education and professional development takes the classroom to the students with extension classes offered all across the state and as far away as the North Shore of the New Orleans Metropolitan area.
The College of Education is home to many unique professional development experiences for Louisiana educators. Under the umbrella of SciTec, the College offers numerous professional development programs, operates the NASA Resource Center for educators and the Idea Place as a public science education center and museum, and provides educational opportunities to thousands of "at risk" students through the Louisiana GEAR Up program. The College also provides professional development to school and educational administrators through events such as Law Day - which provides guidance to educators on current legal issues.
The Louisiana Tech College of Education is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, through Louisiana Tech University. Louisiana Tech has been an accredited member of SACS since 1927. The College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the American Psychological Association. The Louisiana Tech University College of Education has been continuously accredited by NCATE since 1954.
