Welcome to the College of Education website!

Hallmarks of our College are our commitments to inclusive learning communities, to partnerships, and to collaboration. These are evident in our high quality programs, our extraordinary outreach initiatives, our meaningful involvement with P-12 school partners and other community organizations, our connections with discipline departments throughout the campus, and our expanding research initiatives.
The College is home to rigorous, nationally accredited, and state recognized programs from baccalaureate through doctoral levels. It is home to capable, conscientious, and service-minded students. It is home to creative faculty who are award-winning teachers and advisors, nationally recognized researchers, and accomplished scholarly writers.

The College has many additional outstanding programs and initiatives:

  • Our A. E. Phillips Laboratory School which serves as a model for best practice in K-8 education and as a school of excellent academic achievement by its 265 children.
  • SCI-TEC, a multi-dimensional center promoting best practice and research in formal and informal mathematics and science teaching and learning. This Center houses the Planetarium, the IDEA Place (a children's mathematics and science museum), Louisiana's only NASA Educator Resource Center, and outstanding outreach programs.
  • The Professional Development and Research Institute on Blindness which promotes our commitment to inclusive learning opportunities and to filling a void in research on issues of blindness.
  • The Psychological Services Clinic, dedicated to diagnosis and intervention for a wide range of learning and mental health issues, also is housed in the College of Education.

The College maintains an unswerving commitment to excellence in all of its programs and operations. This commitment pervades our initiatives in academic programs, innovative projects, work with our students and P-12 students, and our continuous assessment and improvement endeavors. We have dedicated our efforts to promotion of professional standards, diverse experiences for our students and faculty, development of professional identity, and continuous program refinement, all of which form cornerstones for our collaboratively developed conceptual framework. We have committed to preparing professionals who are S.T.A.R.s, who demonstrate high qualifications in Subject matter, who are proficient as Technology integrators, who are proficient as Advanced communicators through a variety of media, and who are proficient in the Research base which supports and defines their specific profession.

We invite you to peruse the information provided in our site. It conveys our vision of developing competent, ethical, and caring professionals who make significant contributions to lives of children, youth, and adults.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Gullatt, Dean
