Program Requirements and Curriculum

All students entering the program are expected to pursue the doctorate on a full-time basis. Full-time study typically includes a teaching or research assistantship, research, participation in assorted professional activities, and a full course load (9 - 10 semester hours) each quarter. Since the requirements for the doctoral program are rigorous, students are strongly discouraged from pursuing outside employment while enrolled in the program.

The current Counseling Psychology Curriculum was designed to correspond to APA standards for accreditation of Counseling Psychology programs. Because of the dynamic nature of Counseling Psychology as a discipline, and the developmental nature of this Counseling Psychology program, the curriculum is subject to change and refinement.

Each student’s program of study will be individualized to some degree, based on that student’s past training, experiences, coursework, needs, interests, and resources.
