Federal Work Study Program (FWSP)

FWS provides jobs for students to help pay for educational costs. To be considered for FWS, a student must:

  • indicate on your FAFSA your interest in FWS (Question 31 on the FAFSA form)
  • have unmet financial need
  • have a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 if an undergraduate, a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 if a graduate, or an ACT composite score of 20 or higher if an entering freshman without a college GPA.

Funds are limited; therefore, students who complete their financial aid files by the published priority deadline will be given first consideration.

Students will be allowed to earn up to a set amount during an award period. The usual amount awarded is $700 per quarter. Students may work up to 20 hours per week and must be enrolled half-time to be able to continue to work. Half-time enrollment is defined as 4 hours for undergraduates or 3 hours for graduates. Students who drop below half time enrollment will no longer be eligible for student employment and must cease working. Students are paid hourly and will receive at least the current Federal minimum wage ($7.25 as of July 1, 2009). Paychecks are disbursed at least once monthly. Positions are located on campus and through local, contracted, non-profit agencies. A particular emphasis on community service opportunities exists within the FWS program.

Students eligible for this award will be contacted by the Student Employment Coordinator for job placement. Appointments are generally held one month prior to the start of the Fall Quarter.
