Alternative Loans:  Common Eligibility Requirements

Requirements vary according to lender; however, some of the most common eligibility requirements are:

  1. Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree or certificate program.
  2. Enrolled at least half-time (4 hours if you are an undergraduate and 3 hours if you are a graduate).
  3. Creditworthy borrower or borrower with a creditworthy cosigner.
  4. U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.
  5. Not required to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
