Highway 151: From Arcadia to Calhoun

The towns and communities along Highway 151 from Arcadia to Calhoun are proud of our north Louisiana hill country landscape and would like to share its beauty and interesting local history with others. The towns have formed a committee of officials and interested citizens to work on applying for a Louisiana Byways designation from the state of Louisiana for that stretch of the highway.  To do this, we need your help to collect the history and interesting stories from our area.  If you live in a historic home (over 50 years old) or have a story tell about the houses, other buildings, or events, please complete one of our Highway 151 Information Collection forms.  We also are collecting stories, history, and information about businesses and occupations along the route and any other tidbits you would like to contribute.

To travel our highway, exit I-20 to Highway 151 at Calhoun (coming from the east) or Arcadia (coming from the west).   Highway 151 runs through the towns of Arcadia, Dubach, Downsville, and Calhoun and the rural communities of Alabama, Mt. Zion, Fellowship, D’Arbonne, and Sibley. See our churches, cemeteries, pine woods, cypress bayous, pastures with cows and horses, gas wells, chicken houses, and architectural examples spanning over 150 years, (including a log dog trot and other folk architectural types built since western settlement).

The Center for Rural Development is a project of Louisiana Tech University.
