Specially designed programs in English as a Second Language can be arranged for groups of 10 or more participants. Sponsors for such groups may include universities, government agencies, and business organizations. A variety of ESL courses are available at the beginning, low intermediate, high intermediate and advanced levels in grammar, writing, reading, and conversation/vocabulary; other courses that are available for groups interested in the Teaching of ESL include Communication Skills, Language and Cultural Contexts, Introduction to Linguistics, English Grammar in ESL Teaching, Methods for Teaching and Testing in ESL, Curriculum Development and Design for ESL, Cross-Cultural Communication for ESL Teaching, and Special Topics in ESL Teaching. Upon request, the institutional version of the TOEFL exam may also be given as part of a special ESL program. A variety of activities and excursions that focus on the distinctive features of American Louisiana culture can be incorporated into such programs. Students in special ESL programs live in the university dormitory system and have access to all university facilites, including the library system, swimming pool, the sports center, and the track and field. Courses taken in such programs are awarded university credit, the grades for which appear on official universtiy transcripts.
