The
Graduate Record Examinations tests are taken by individuals applying to graduate schools. The GRE is available through the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Program and the Paper-Based Testing Program.
The GRE offers two tests: General Test - measures verbal, quantitative, and analytical reasoning skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not necessarily related to any particuliar field of study. The General Test is offered in two formats: as a computer-based test and as a paper-based test.
Subject Tests - measures achievement in a particular subject area and assume an undergraduate major or extensive background in that discipline. Subject Tests are given in 16 subject areas and are available only as paper-based tests.
Fees and registration Fees for
Paper-based testing in the U.S. are $96 for the General Test and $96 for the Subject Test. Paper-based tests are offered three times a year and scores are mailed approximately a month after testing.

Computer-based testing in the U.S. are $96 for the General Test. The computer-based test has fewer test questions and is available year-round. You may view your scores immediately after testing and then choose to have them sent to 4 score recipients. Official scores are mailed approximately 10 to 15 days after testing.
