Admission to the Honors Program

Students applying to Louisiana Tech as freshmen who have a composite score of 27 on the ACT, a 1210 on the "old" 1600-point SAT, or an 1820 on the "new" 2400-point SAT,or graduated in the top 5% of their high school class and made at least a 26 on the ACT, will be eligible to enter the Honors Program. These students should go to the link on the left and fill out an application form and send it back to the Director of the Honors Program.

Other students who do not meet these requirements, but who wish to join the Honors Program, will be considered on a student-by-student basis. If the student has failed to meet the ACT or other stated requirements and will be unable to do so, acceptance into the program may be decided on the student's previous record of academic achievement, and for borderline cases we may require letters of recommendation from high school teachers, advisors, or college professors, records of any extracurricular activities or other evidence of high achievement, and a writing sample. Students must still take at least 21 hours of Honors classes in order to receive an Honors Scholar designation on their transcript. Transfer of credits from other colleges or universities will be considered on a case-by-case basis (see the page on transfer requirements). To remain in the Honors Program, a student must maintain at least a 3.3 overall GPA (after an annual review conducted in June) and remain in good standing with the college and university policies on academic conduct.

A student who is not in the Honors Program, but has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher after two quarters at Tech, may enroll in honors courses or seminars with special permission from the Director of the Honors Program.
