We have officially completed TechSTEP for the 2008-2009 school year!  Thanks to all who participated and made it happen!...  Teacher Workshop 3 gave the teachers a chance to “go deeper” with some of the concepts covered previously in the year, including modeling using Microsoft Excel.  The Challenge Weekend presented student teams with several competitions, including a speed race and a tug-of-war competition.  Each team also prepared a PowerPoint presentation that communicated their design process and test results.  To connect students’ projects to the “real world,” a fuel cell researcher and Louisiana Tech faculty member shared with the group and then toured research labs in our Institute for Micromanufacturing.  Finally, the students were able to hear from their student mentors about college life in engineering and science fields. LATechSTEP (STEM Talent Expansion Program) is an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation.  It is a partnership between Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering & Science and seven high schools from Louisiana and Texas. 

The main goals of the project are:

  • To demonstrate math and science applications
    (hands-on activities, projects, etc.) with high school mathematics and science teachers.
  • To encourage and prepare high school students to graduate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
    and Mathematics) fields in college.

We are excited to announce our partner high schools for
