The recommended software and settings for using the Prescott Memorial Library website and research databases are listed below. If your computer configurations are different from these the specifications listed below, you may experience some difficulty using some components of the website.

Recommended Browsers

If you are experiencing difficulty with screen displays, printing articles or linking to selected resources in our databases, you may be using an outdated version of an Internet browser. New versions have features that enable certain features to work properly. We recommend that you use Internet Explorer (Version 6.0 or above) or Mozilla Firefox (Version 1.0 or above). If you've not already done so, click here to determine the version you are using. You will need to wait a few minutes for the page to load and then close the window are viewing.

If you use AOL as an Internet browser, you will need to switch to Explorer or Firefox once you are online to use the library's electronic resources.

Enable Java and Javascript

You must use a browser that supports Java and Javascript. If you click on a link and nothing happens, you many not have this feature enabled to run. To check this information, use the steps below:

  • Internet Explorer, Version 6
    1. Click "Tools" on browser menu bar
    2. Click "Internet Options" on dropdown menu
    3. Click "Security" tab, then "Custom Level" button
    4. Scroll down the list to "Scripting" and see that all subordinate fields have "Enabled" marked
    5. Click on "OK"
  • Mozilla Firefox, Version 2
    1. Click "Tools" on browser menu bar
    2. Click "Options" on dropdown menu
    3. Click on "Content" tab and make sure that Java and Java Scripting are checked
    4. Click on "OK"

Enable Cookies

A "cookie" is a small text file that holds information about the links you use when searching the research databases. So, to search these resources, your browser must be configured to enable "cookies" that are sent to your computer. To enable "cookies" in the following browsers, use the steps below:

  • Internet Explorer, Version 6
    1. Click "Tools" on browser menu bar
    2. Click "Internet Options" on dropdown menu
    3. Click "Privacy" tab, then "Advanced" button
    4. Place a check beside "Override Automatic Cookie Handling" if not already done so
    5. Then mark "First-Party Cookies" and "Third Party Cookies" as Accept or Prompt
    6. Click on "OK"
  • Mozilla Firefox, Version 2
    1. Click "Tools" on browser menu bar
    2. Click "Options" on dropdown menu
    3. Click on "Privacy" tab and make sure that Enable Cookies are checked
    4. Click on "OK"

If you have another browser or different version, use "Help" on the menu bar to locate information on enabling cookies.

Popup Blockers

Your browser, Google toolbar or a security program may be set to block popups. You will need to turn this feature off to use some features of the library website.

Install PDF Reader
