News Bureau - Sallie Hollis
Sallie Rose Hollis serves as both an associate professor of journalism and assistant director of the News Bureau. She joined the Tech faculty/staff in 1974. Other campus duties include serving as adviser to the student newspaper, The Tech Talk.
Her work has appeared in McCall's, Travel & Leisure, Health, Advertising Age and Louisiana Life. Her teaching, writing and public relations efforts have won, among other citations, first-place awards from Louisiana Press Women and second-place honors from National Federation of Press Women.
Hollis' students have earned first place in several venues: the Best of the South competition of the Southeast Journalism Conference; the Mark of Excellence contest sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists; and the magazine writing competition of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. The Tech Talk was judged as one of the
three best non-daily publications in the country when it earned a National Pacemaker.
Hollis frequently serves as a judge in both professional and scholarly capacities as well as a moderator for groups such as the Southeast Colloquium of AEJMC. She served as president of the seven-state SEJC in 2004-05 and oversaw the annual convention that featured a Pulitzer Prize-winning speaker. In 2001 Hollis was selected as Tech's Outstanding Faculty Adviser. In 1995-96, she was named a university Quest for Quality Fellow. Her specialties are copy editing, feature writing and media law.
