News Bureau - Wiley W. Hilburn Jr.
Wiley W. Hilburn Jr. is chairman of the journalism department and director of the news bureau at Louisiana Tech University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tech and then went to Louisiana State University for his master’s in journalism.
Before serving in his current position, which he has held since 1968, Hilburn served as the editoral writer of The Shreveport Times, telegraph editor for The Monroe Morning World and editor of The Ruston Daily Leader. Currently he writes a weekly Gannett column for The Shreveport Times and The Monroe News-Star.
Hilburn received “Special Recognition” from Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer in 1989 for “Twenty Years of Dedication to Louisiana Tech University” and was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in 2001. He also received the Louisiana Tech Alumni Foundation Award for Outstanding Teacher in 1993 and the Best Louisiana Column Award from United Press International in 1983.
He serves as a member of the Administrative Planning Council and Athletic Council at Tech.
Hilburn is the author of several books, including “New Seasons,” “Fragments” and “Reflections of North Louisiana.”
