The Office of Disability Services does not provide financial aid. However, we realize that this area is a key factor in funding a student's college education. We also realize that financial aid may be of even greater importance to students with disabilities who require costly, but necessary accommodations. For these reasons, we have compiled the following list of resources on financial aid for students with disabilities.
Louisiana Tech University Scholarships
Louisiana Tech University offers a wide variety of scholarships to students who meet certain criteria. For more information on scholarships administered by the university, please contact the Louisiana Tech Financial Aid Office by phone at (318) 257-2641 or on the web at http://www.latech.edu/finaid .
The 5 academic colleges that make up the university also offer scholarships to registered students of that college (ex: a Computer Information Systems major is eligible for CIS and College of Administration and Business scholarships). For more information on college and departmental scholarships, please contact the appropriate college below:
Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS)
Students with disabilities are highly encouraged to contact their local LRS office for assistance. The primary goal of LRS is to assist persons with disabilities in their desire to obtain or maintain employment and/or achieve independence in their communities by providing rehabilitation services and working cooperatively with business and other community resources. On the college level, LRS provides many services to assist students with disabilities in reaching this goal, such as assistance with tuition, books, and supplies, and providing adaptive equipment. For more information on LRS services, visit the LRS website or contact your local LRS office at the phone number below.
Federal Financial Aid
There are a number of federal grant and loan programs that students can go through in order to secure funding for college. Some of these programs include:
- Stafford Loans *
- PLUS Loans *
- Direct Loans *
- Pell Grants
- Perkins Loans *
- Work-Study
* Items marked with an asterisk are loan programs and require repayment of funds once you leave college.
Most of these programs are administered through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. For more information about federal financial aid and the FAFSA, please visit FAFSA on the Web or contact the Louisiana Tech Financial Aid Office as explained above.
