Q: Do I have to audition to be accepted into the music program of study?
A: Yes, an audition is required for any student wishing to major or minor in music. Visit the Audition Requirements page for further information.
Q: Can I major in two subjects (double major) such as Engineering and Music?
A: While it is possible to double major, it can be difficult due to the conflict of scheduling of classes in each major. Students interested in a double major should check with each department to find out the requirements for each degree.
Q: Do I have to be a music major to play or sing in an ensemble?
A: No. All students are invited to particpate in band, choir, or orchestra. An audition is required. Contact Mr. Jim Robken for band auditions, Dr. John Petzet for choir auditions, and Mrs. Ann Sorensen for orchestra auditions.
Q: When are auditions held?
A: There are 4 audition dates scheduled each year. Visit the Prospective Students page for more information. Students unable to attend one of the scheduled audition dates are encouraged to contact a music faculty member to schedule an alternate date. Q: If I am admitted to the University, do I still have to audition?
A: Yes, admittance to Louisiana Tech is a separate process from admittance to the Department of Music.
